The BBC's reboot of the motoring show Top Gear is reportedly planning to bring back the masked racing driver known as The Stig. The return of the series was confirmed last month, having been on hiatus since 2022 after presenter Andrew Flintoff was involved in an accident.
According to a series "insider" who spoke to The Sun, show bosses want the new Top Gear to have some familiarity despite an overhaul of its format and presenting team. The Stig was described as one of the most important elements from the show's "golden age" under Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, through to the most recent series in 2022.
The famous costume has been occupied by several different anonymous individuals over the years, including Formula One racing driver Perry McCarthy and Ben Collins. The revamped show is expected to air next year, though an exact timeline has not yet been confirmed.
