Jury selection began on Monday in Las Vegas for the trial of Duane "Keffe D" Davis, who is accused of the 1996 murder of rap superstar Tupac Shakur. Mr Davis, 63, a former gang boss, has pleaded not guilty to murder with a deadly weapon with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang.
Prosecutors allege that Tupac Shakur's killing was in retaliation for the beating of Mr Davis's nephew, Orlando Anderson, hours before the shooting. Mr Davis is accused of being the architect of the crime, ordering the shooting and supplying the weapon.
The case reportedly hinges on a book co-authored by Mr Davis, which he has argued is partially fiction. The trial could also feature celebrity witnesses, including Suge Knight, the former CEO of Death Row Records, who was with Shakur when he was shot.
